William Blake Poetry

I believe that William Blake wrote such contrasting poems because of the two sides of the belief system at this point in history. There were those who believed that prayer and the church could fix anything and then there were the people who disagreed and believed that the church could fix nothing. This is also coming from a man who lived through the Enlightenment period, which was the climactic point of church vs. science. The church was also fought when the French Revolution rolled around because those in the church were part of the 1st Estate and did not have to pay taxes as the 2nd, and more importantly the 3rd Estate who started the revolution.
